Position Summary

 

The Supervisor, Diagnostic Imaging – MRI ensures excellent customer service by maintaining staff coverage, monitoring diagnostic quality of exams, and facilitating communication between patients, staff and radiologists.  Models professional standards for imaging technologists in MRI including professionalism, confidentiality, and patient care, while performing a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures. Contributes to a positive work environment that promotes HMC values.

 

Essential Functions

Job Duties & Responsibilities

 

Clinical & Technical Duties. Representative duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the optimal completion of all procedures utilizing the magnetic resonance imaging scanner by evaluating orders and advising technologists as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to change a protocol as needed without compromising image quality.
  • Performs quality control functions in MRI in accordance with department quality control process.
  • Describe and apply the physics behind the MRI system.
  • Perform tasks as a licensed imager, assists physicians as necessary.
  • Maintains appropriate supply levels, responsible for keeping current on new technology and equipment, and keeps all MRI personnel informed of new protocols and procedures.

Operational & Equipment Management. Representative duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates equipment maintenance and repair; coordinates Health Physicist inspection/calibration, repairs, and participate in Oregon Radiation Protection Services inspection as required.
  • Maintains awareness and monitoring of quality management.
  • Liaison between nursing staff, physicians and office staff, service engineers, radiologists and MRI staff.
  • Participate in reviewing and updating the intranet, hot files, MCN.

Strategic Planning & Budgeting. Representative duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Involvement in capital budget for MRI equipment and staffing needs.
  • Participates in long range planning for department design, imaging equipment and staffing needs.
  • Helps the Director with budgeting for assigned group.

Team Supervision and Support. Representative duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Guides and trains team members, provides support and feedback to help them improve their skills and performance.
  • Organizes and assigns daily tasks, ensures smooth workflow and efficient use of resources. Decisions influence the team while impacting the department operations.
  • Coordinates work schedules for imaging staff, including breaks and lunch coverage.
  • Addresses team issues and challenges and participates in facilitating solutions and escalates complex problems when necessary.
  • Fosters open communications within the team and with other departments, facilitating collaboration and teamwork.
  • Participates in staff/department meetings, screening applicants, interviewing and hiring technical staff and attendants.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction tools and reports, respond to patient complaints and organizational needs in a timely manner as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

  • Graduated from an accredited program in medical radiography, radiologic sciences, or an American Medical Association (AMA) accredited school.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a lead technologist or comparable experience supervising staff.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a staff technologist.

Licenses & Certifications

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) MRI or other approved credentialing organization.
  • Oregon Radiologic Technologist License – OBMI.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS required upon hire.
    • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire or required within 90 days of hire.

  • In-depth understanding of MRI procedures
  • HIPAA regulations and confidentiality

Skill in:

  • Effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills

  • Problem solving situations where limited standardization exists
