Summary of Duties

Ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for patients undergoing surgical and procedures in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician's orders, hospital policy, standards of care and nursing practice.  Responsible for assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process. 

Hiring Competencies

a)    License: Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing required.

b)    Education: A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

c)    Certification: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.  If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider.  ACLS/CNOR certification preferred.

d)    Experience: Minimum one year experience in OR as scrub and circulator, preferred

e)    Membership in appropriate professional organization preferred

f)     Demonstrates skills in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients

g)    Previous outpatient ambulatory setting experience preferred for Outpatient Surgery RN position

h)     Demonstrates excellent customer service skills

i)     Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of rules/regulations established by governmental and regulatory agencies.

j)    Practices effective communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal, and non-verbal.

k)     Utilizes a problem solving process to make decisions related to patient care and unit activity

l)   Develops skills in use of hospital computerized information/ordering system.

m)    Demonstrates proper, professional appearance and personal conduct.

n)    Must clearly speak, write and communicate in the English language

o)    Bilingual, with Spanish as second language, preferred.

          2.    Physically Demanding Tasks: 

Must be able to lift and transport patients and move equipment (occasionally 50+ pounds, frequently 10-20+ pounds).  Frequent bending at waist, squatting, push/pull up to 50+ pounds of force for distance of up to 120+ feet. Walks and/or stands for 5-8 hours/shift.  Must have adequate range of motion to accomplish duties.
