Summary of Duties

The registered nurse (RN) functions include working with the treatment team in a collegial manner as well as working with patients and families on a direct care basis and at times will have to take charge of the unit and make decisions on the delivery of patient care during the shift.

Hiring Competencies

a)    Education: Bachelors degree preferred. A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

b)    License: Valid license as a Registered Nurse granted by the State of Oregon. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.  If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider (revised May 24, 2010).  Demonstrates proper appearance and personal conduct for the employee's particular job.

c)    Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

d)    Experience and Skills:

         1) Two years of recent psychiatric and/or long term care a must, med/surg experience helpful, but not required.

         2) Must have demonstrated skills in caring of geriatric population.

e)    Uses a problem solving process to make decisions related to patient care and department activities.

f)     Understands and complies with confidentiality of the unit.

g)     Functions well as part of a team.

2.       Physically Demanding Tasks: 

Moves beds, stretchers and equipment up to 500 pounds five to ten times per shift.  Assists in the movement of patients and/or equipment whose weight may range from 30 to 500 pounds, pushes or pulls weights, walks, kneels and/or stands for 5-8 hours/shift, lifts 35-40 pounds.  Must have adequate range of motion to accomplish duties.
