Functions as the Associate Nurse Manager for the Lactation Services department. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational philosophy and objectives. Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for all patient care activities, unit operation, and staff function. Ensures continuity of care on the unit by providing direct care (when appropriate) as well as supervising the care given by nurses and supportive staff. Fosters highly skilled professional practice and develops high functioning interdisciplinary teams. Provides leadership in specific clinical or administrative area. Participates in coaching, counseling, timely effective feedback to staff and actively participates in the performance evaluation process in conjunction with administrative manager or director. Each individual member of the leadership team will be responsible for areas of focus including quality improvement, staff scheduling/timekeeping, patient satisfaction, recruitment/retention, and education.
a) Education: BSN or Associated Degree in Nursing required upon hire. Completion of BSN by 2020. Masters prepared preferred. A copy of your highest science-related academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.
b) License: Current license as registered nurse in state of Oregon
c) Certifications: Certification in field of specialty/discipline (refer to policy N-12U) or Nursing Leadership preferred within a year of hire. Healthcare American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire. If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider. Neonatal Resuscitation preferred upon hire and required within 6 months of hire. International Board Certified Lactation (IBLC) required within 18 months of hire.
d) Minimum of 5 years nursing experience required. One year of management experience preferred.
e) Skill in policy formulation and group presentation skills.
f) Experience with quality improvement; developing initiatives, monitoring clinical care
g) Demonstrates effective written, communication and interpersonal skills – body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing and questions, and applies them to change management, team building, and facilitation of team effectiveness.
h) Possesses knowledge of current concepts of nursing and medical practices, and skills necessary in providing appropriate care for patients unique needs based upon age, culture, ethnicity and belief systems.
i) Exhibits effective conflict resolution skills and strong collaborative skills in daily interactions and decision-making.
j) Demonstrates ability to use a personal computer efficiently.
k) Must be able to function effectively and professionally in high stress and critical situations.

2. Physically Demanding Tasks:
Moves beds, stretchers and equipment up to 500 pounds 5 –10 times per shift. Assists in the movement of patients and/or equipment whose weight may range from 30 to 500 pounds. Pushes or pulls weights, walks and/or stands for 5-8 hours per shift, lifts 35 – 40 pounds. Must have adequate ROM to accomplish duties.
