Directs the overall operations of the surgical and cardiac services departments for Tuality Community Hospital. These services for surgery include the Operating Room, Preadmission Clinic, Day Surgery Unit, Tuality Outpatient Surgery, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, GE Lab, Sterile Processing and the non-clinical aspects of the Anesthesia Department. Assumes 24- hour responsibility and accountability for high quality, cost-effective, age appropriate patient care activities, quality improvement, budget and financial management, staff recruitment/retention and development, and ensures adherence to hospital and clinical standards of performance. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational philosophy and objectives. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to translate and implement organizational and department priorities into operations. Ensures a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive and engaged staff. The Director of Perioperative Services partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with administrative, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
The Director of Perioperative Services decisions and actions are based on the ethical principles outlined by the American Nurses Association’s Code of Ethics for Nursing. The Director of Perioperative Services practices in adherence with the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurse Administrations, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing, The Oregon State Board of Nursing’s Nurse Practice Act, and within the context of the Nurse Executive Competencies developed by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).
Serves as the RN assistant in the following capacities: Perioperative prep of patient for surgery, including instrumentation set up and passing instruments during procedure, assist in providing exposure; Intraoperatively to ensure all supplies and instruments are available, position patient, handle tissue, use instruments, provide exposure, , provide hemostasis, apply dressings; Postoperative care including patient teaching, advance drains, change dressings, assess lab values.
a) Education: BSN degree required. Masters preparation in nursing leadership, health science, business or hospital administration preferred. A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.
b) License: Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing required. Oregon driver’s license required if responsible for multi-site operations for which personal transportation is needed.
c) Membership: Membership in appropriate professional organization preferred.
d) Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years management/leadership experience in area of responsibilities.
e) Demonstrates knowledge of leadership skills, organizational skills and the nursing process to provide appropriate individualized patient care.
f) Demonstrates knowledge of rules/regulations established by pertinent governmental and regulatory agencies.
g) Exhibits knowledge of financial management and budget preparation processes.
h) Excellent customer service skills.
i) Utilizes effective written and verbal communication skills.
