Summary of Duties

Assists with the nursing care of patients.  Provides comfort services and assistance with activities of daily living.  Assists with the transport, preparation, and postoperative care of the surgical patient.  Assists with clerical duties and assists ANM with projects. Responsible for cardiac monitor surveillance for the telemetry unit and other nursing units as assigned.  Responsible for the reporting of any rhythm changes and potentially lethal rhythms to a Registered Nurse following the Telemetry Rhythm Notification Guidelines. Run rhythm strips every shift

Hiring Competencies

a)    Education:  High school diploma or equivalent required. A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

b)    Certifications: CNA Level 2 Acute Care certification required upon hire.  American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.  If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider (revised May 24, 2010).

c)    Minimum 6 months experience in skilled nursing facility or hospital preferred.

d)    Excellent customer service skills.

e)    Able to develop skills in use of computerized hospital information/ordering system.

f)     Utilizes effective verbal communication skills.

g)    Functions effectively in stressful situations.

h)    Demonstrates skills in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in a knowledgeable, skillful and consistent manner.

i)     Personal appearance makes a good first impression.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND HAZARDS:

a)      Percentage of Time Spent:

         a.        1-30%  Standing                b.        1-30%  Sitting

         c.        30-60%  Walking                d.        1-30%  Lifting/Carrying

b). Physically Demanding Tasks

Assists in the movement of patients and/or equipment whose weight may range from 30-500 pounds, pushes or pulls weights, walks and/or stands for 8 hours/shift, lifts 35 to 40 pounds.  Must have adequate range of motion to accomplish duties.
