Summary of Duties

Manages overall daily department functions.  Responsible for the overall direction, leadership and, supervision of department and staff.  Develops and approves policies and procedures consistent with current community and national guidelines and regulations.  Responsible for budget preparation, Quality Metrics, and monthly report monitoring.  Serves as central sterile department liaison with other departments.  Monitors and follows up on CQI activities.  Responsible for interviewing and hiring, scheduling, coaching, corrective action, and performance reviews.  Responsible for maintenance of instrument, equipment tray procedure books, sterilizer testing documentation and inventory sheets.  Manages the loans and borrows process, instrument and equipment maintenance and repairs, and instrument and supply orders.  Ensures that all Tuality Healthcare clinics sterile processing needs are met in a timely manner.  Participates in daily work as needed.    

Hiring Competencies

a.     Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred

b.     Certification: Central Service certification required within one year of hire. 

CHL-Certified Healthcare Leadership certification preferred.

c.      Experience:  Five years current experience in sterile processing, distribution and inventory control in a facility with cardiac surgery, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics preferred.  Two years experience supervising 5 or more people preferred.

d.     Demonstrates knowledge of leadership skills, organizational skills and problem solving skills to provide quality services to customers.

e.     Demonstrates knowledge of rules/regulations established by pertinent governmental and regulatory agencies.

f.      Utilizes effective written and verbal communication skills.

g.     Utilizes effective interpersonal skills.

h.     Demonstrates strong analytical skills.

i.      Creates positive first impression with professional appearance and hygiene.

j.      Demonstrates knowledge of operations, including staffing and scheduling, budget management, workflow planning and staff development.

k.     Assists sterile processing technicians with completion of daily tasks.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.      Percentage of Time Spent:

1-30%  Standing
30-60%  Sitting
1-30%  Walking
1-30%  Lifting / Carrying
 

2.      Physically Demanding Tasks: 

a.    Filling case carts and restock carts – bending

b.    Processing instruments, case carts, hospital equipment, etc – lifting, standing, carrying and bending.

c.    Loading autoclaves – pushing, pulling and lifting.

d.    Lifting up to 40 pounds, 20-50 times per shift.
