Summary of Duties

Assumes twenty-four hour responsibility and accountability for all patient care activities, unit operation and staff function for the main operating room.  Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of patients undergoing surgical procedures.  Ensures continuity of care on the unit by supervising the care given by nurses and supportive staff and providing direct care when appropriate.  Participates in the development of departmental goals and quality assurance activities.  Maintains departmental regulatory compliance and fiscal targets.  Provides leadership and direction in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician orders, hospital policy, and guidelines of care and nursing practice.                                                                                                                   

Hiring Competencies

a)     License: Current Oregon registered nurse license required.

b)     Education:  BSN or Associated Degree in Nursing required upon hire.  Completion of BSN required by 2020, if not already BSN upon hire. Masters prepared preferred. A copy of your highest science-related academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

c)     Certification:  American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.  If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider.  Current or complete ACLS within 180 days of hire, PALS preferred.

CNOR preferred.

d)     Minimum of seven years current and relevant operating room nursing experience, 3-5 years in progressive management positions, three years management experience supervising 20 or more employees required.

e)     Demonstrates proper appearance and personal conduct for the employee's particular job.

f)       Demonstrates excellent customer service.

g)     Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Percentage of Time Spent:

2.  Physically Demanding Tasks:

Must be able to lift and transport patients and move equipment (occasionally 50+ pounds, frequently 10-20+ pounds).  Frequent bending at waist, squatting, push/pull up to 50+ pounds of force for distance of up to 120+ feet.
