Summary of Duties

Delivers quality nursing care to patients requiring emergency treatment in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician orders, hospital policy, and standard nursing practice.  Responsible for assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out, evaluated and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process.

Hiring Competencies

a)    License:  Current Licensure as registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing required.

b)    Education: A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

c)    Certification:  American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.  If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider.

       ACLS preferred upon hire and required within 180 days of hire.

       TNCC and CEN preferred

       PALS or ENPC required within 180 days of hire.      

d)    Minimum one year Emergency Department nursing experience preferred.

e)    Minimum of two years Emergency Department nursing experience required for candidates who may be utilized in a Charge Nurse capacity.

f)     Must have demonstrated skills in caring for the neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

g)    Excellent customer service skills.

h)    Functions well as part of a team.

i)     Uses a problem solving process to make decisions related to patient care and department activity maintaining a positive work environment.

j)     Responds appropriately in an emergency situation.

k)    Uses effective communication skills to work with patients, families and co-workers maintaining confidentiality.

         2.     Physically Demanding Tasks: 

Moves beds, stretchers and equipment up to 500 pounds five to ten times per shift.  Assists in the movement of patients and/or equipment whose weight may range from 30 to 500 pounds, pushes or pulls weights, walks and/or stands for 5-8 hours/shift, lifts 35-40 pounds.  Must have adequate range of motion to accomplish duties.
