  • Summary of Duties

    Ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for perinatal and neonatal patients in accordance with age related and individual needs, physician’s orders, hospital policy, standards of care and nursing practice.  Responsible for assessment of patient needs, planning nursing care based on those needs, ensuring that the plan of care is implemented, documented and evaluated according to the nursing process.  Provides direct patient care to both mother and baby and supervises care given by supportive staff.  Participates in the development of the birth center unit goals.

    Hiring Competencies

    a.   License: Current Registered Nurse License in the state of Oregon.

    b.   Education: A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

    c.   Demonstrates proper appearance and personal conduct.

    d.   Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

    e.   Certification: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required upon hire. ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.

    f.   Neonatal Resuscitation preferred upon hire and required within 6 month of hire.

    g.  Must have prior labor and delivery experience, or a minimum of 2 years mother/baby experience with expectation to train to labor and delivery.

    h.  Bilingual skills preferred.

    i.   Able to develop skills in use of hospital computer information/ordering system.

    j.   Functions as a team member with in the Birth Center.

    k.  Utilizes critical thinking as a problem solving process in making decisions related to patient care and unit activity.
