  • Summary of Duties

    Ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for medical/surgical patients in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician’s orders, hospital policy, standards of care and nursing practice.  Responsible for assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process.  Ensures continuity of care by providing direct care as well as supervising care given by nurses and supportive staff (when appropriate).  Participates in the development of the medical/surgical unit goals.                                   

    Hiring Competencies

    a.   License: Current licensure as registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing required.

    b.   Education: A copy of your highest academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

    c.   Certification: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire. If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider. ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.

    d.   Minimum one year Med/Surg experience preferred (exception would be of a satisfactory preceptor program and unit skills checklist completed within probationary period).

    e.   Demonstrates skills in caring for the neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

    f.    Skills in use of hospital computer information/ordering system.

    g.   Demonstrates IV competencies within 90 days.

    h.   Uses effective written and verbal communication skills.

    i.    Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.

    j.    Functions well as part of a team and practices effective interpersonal skills..

    k.   Utilizes a problem solving process to make decisions related to patient care and unit activity.

    l.    Personal appearance makes a good first impression.

    m.  Bilingual skills a plus.
