  • Summary of Duties

    The Quality RN serves the organization through development, implementation, testing, evaluation, documentation and presentation of quality improvement processes programs and activities as assigned by the Director of Quality. Collects and audits data to assess the validity and reliability of established outcomes or to respond to recommendations for improvement from governing/accrediting bodies. Utilizes collaboration and excellent communication skills to foster process improvement and quality patient care with all stakeholders.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    Data Collection & Analysis:

    • Collects and analyzes quality data to assess the validity and reliability of established outcomes. 
    • Prepares reports on data for presentation to stakeholders. 
    • Provides analysis for trends in quality measures and identifies opportunities for process improvement.  Utilizes the data reporting computer programs as assigned by the director for recording, analysis and presentation of quality data. 
    • Utilizes the clinical documentation system as a daily tool for review of aspects of patient care from a quality perspective.

    Professional Role:

    • Practices with minimal supervision, in consultation and collaboration with the Director of Quality and other leaders as needed on quality metrics.
    • Provides staff education on quality measures and process improvement as directed.
    • Assists the Director in the evaluation, revision and/or creation of OHSU Tuality policies and procedures as they relate to quality. 
    • Fully participates in and supports compliance with state and federally regulated patient-care policies. 
    • Participates in appropriate quality committee and councils and community liaison assignments as assigned by the Director. 
    • If requested by the Director, the Quality RN serves as the steward of specific quality programs, such as stroke.
    • May serve as an internal consultant for stakeholders within the organization.
    • Assists the Director and accepts other tasks as assigned.

    Hiring Competencies

    Education:

    • Required:
      • Bachelor’s degree in nursing. 
    • Preferred:
      • Master’s Degree.

    Experience:

    • Required:
      • At least three (3) years of clinical experience in the acute care setting.
      • At least three (3) years experience in Quality Improvement Programs.
    • Preferred:
      • At least two (2) years experience in teaching adults.

    Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

    • Required:
      • Current licensure in state of Oregon as RN.
      • Certification American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required upon hire.
      • Certification in Healthcare Quality required within two (2) years of employment.
    • Preferred:
      • Certification as Professional Healthcare Quality practitioner.
      • Active membership in professional organizations.

    Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Required:
      • Excellent verbal and written skills.
      • Excellent customer service skills.
      • Proficiency in group presentations.   
      • Proficiency in auditing in electronic medical records.
      • Proficiency in report writing.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and typing.
      • Proficiency in report writing/formatting.
      • Knowledge of principles imbedded within a culture of safety.
      • Knowledge of Oregon Health Authority, Health Share of Oregon (SHO), National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and other governing and regulatory agency standards.
    • Preferred:
      • Proficiency in the Epic electronic heath records.
      • Experience with statistical analysis.
