  • Summary of Duties

    Visits patients who are unable to place orders or have failed to do so in order to assist them with meal selections.  Communicates to nursing.  Covers Nutrition Assistant breaks and competently takes patient meal orders over the telephone and enters the requests into the computer system, always making sure the items requested are allowed on the diet prescribed by the physician.  Works efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, healthcare environment.

    Hiring Competencies

    a)   Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

    b)   License: Required to obtain food service handler’s card 2 weeks of employment date.

    c)   One year experience in the department or one year previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

    d)   Must be able to read and write conversational English.  “Conversational” Spanish helpful.

    e)   Excellent interpersonal patient and customer skills required.

    f)    Accurate paperwork project completion skills.

    g)   Able to work in a team oriented department with minimal supervision.

    h)   Personal appearance makes a good first impression.

    i)    Uses effective communication skills.

    j)    Demonstrates ability in dealing with items of confidentiality.

    k)   Demonstrates thorough knowledge of therapeutic diets.

    l)    Excellent telephone customer service skills required.

    m)  Demonstrates ability to deal with multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment.

    n)   Bilingual skills a plus.
