    Ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for patients undergoing surgical and non-invasive procedures in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician's orders, hospital policy, standards of care and nursing practice. Responsible for assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process. 


    Perianesthesia nursing care consists of 3 phases:

    Preop:      (66101-DSU; 65911-TOPS Pre-Post) - This position is for Preop

    Phase I:   (66501 Recovery Room; 65911-TOPS Pre-Post)

    Phase II:  (66101-DSU; 65911-TOPS Pre-Post)


    a.   License: Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Oregon State Board of Nursing required.

    b.   Education: A copy of your highest science-related academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.

    c.   Certification: 

    • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required upon hire. 
    • CAPA, CPAN preferred.
    • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire-Phase I.
    • For TOPS Pre-Post department only (65911) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required upon hire; current employees have until 1/6/19 to attain PALS certification.


    PreOp/Phase II:  Minimum one year experience in DSU or Med/Surg preferred.

    All Phases:

    a.   Membership in appropriate professional organization, preferred.

    b.   Demonstrates skills in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

    c.   Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.

    d.   Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of rules/regulations established by governmental and regulatory agencies.

    e.   Practices effective communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal, and non-verbal.

    f.    Utilizes a problem solving process to make decisions related to patient care and unit activity.

    g.   Develops skills in use of hospital computerized information/ordering system.

    h.   Demonstrates proper, professional appearance and personal conduct.

    i.    Must clearly speak, write and communicate in the English language.

    j.    Bilingual, with Spanish as second language, preferred.

    k.   Previous outpatient ambulatory setting experience preferred-TOPS, DSU

    l.    For TOPS Pre-Post department only (65911): to ensure appropriate skill mix, two years of Pediatric experience in Perianesthesia may be required for this position.
