POSITION SUMMARY

Pay range: $67,392/yr - $97,011/yr

 

Assist in the development and implementation of a behavioral science curriculum and professional development activities for family and internal medicine residents. Teach family and internal medicine residents on an individual basis, in group settings including didactic lectures, workshops, and in seminars on behavioral science topics.

Provide residents with skills needed to maintain their commitment to practicing high quality patient-focused care within a high stress work environment. Ensure compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) behavioral science/professional development requirements for family medicine residents.  Provide residents with skills needed to work effectively with underserved and multi-ethnic populations. Provide clinical services in the outpatient setting inclusive of diagnostic and crisis assessment, psychological education and intervention, individual and systematic interventions and health and behavior coaching.  Participate in resident evaluation and resident recruitment.  Collaborate with residents, faculty and staff on additional appropriate committees, projects and administrative duties.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Performed majority of the time:

·         Provides counseling, supervision, and crisis intervention services at the Family Medicine Practice site.

·         Provides counseling, supervision, and crisis intervention services at the Internal Medicine Practice site.

·         Provides case consultation to residents and staff in a timely manner.

·         Assists residents in evaluating patient and family needs and in developing and implementing a care plan enabling the patient to receive the appropriate assistance from community resources.

·         Documents interventions in patient electronic medical record in an appropriate manner, demonstrating understanding of patient's psychosocial, medical and economic needs.

·         Assists residents with crisis intervention services during residency clinic sessions (including psychiatric emergencies, domestic violence, etc.).

·         Instructs residents in the Behavioral Science areas of clinical assessment, management and therapeutic approaches.

·         Facilitates resident support/Balint groups for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year residents as required.

·         Shadowing and video-feedback review with family medicine residents with focus on teaching patient-centered communication skills.

·         Coordinates and has primary teaching responsibility for the Behavioral Health Rotation including one-to-one resident teaching s with residents and outpatient psychosocial evaluation skills.

·         Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the Human Behavior, Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine curriculum to fulfill the standards required by the Residency Review Committee.

·         Work as part of an inter-professional team in a patient-centered medical home environment.

·         Participates in faculty development and research in order to remain current in the field of Behavioral Science.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

·         Occasionally rounds on Family Medicine Service patients focusing on smoking cessation, acceptance of diagnosis and transition of care for patients prior to discharge.

·         Conducts conferences and seminars on topics from the Core Curriculum for Human Behavior on a regular basis.

·         Assists in supervising residents during office sessions.

·         Oversees other learners (social work students, psychology externs, etc.).

·         Plan and facilitate resident wellness activities.

·         Participates in the recruitment and selection of resident applicants for the program.

·         Collaboration with community partners.

·         Occasional attendance at pertinent community based meetings.

·         Service on committees as needed.

·         Attend faculty and clinic meetings.

·         Perform other activities related to administrative, clinical, and teaching roles.

·         Participate in quality improvement activities including team-based review of chronic disease panels, development of quality improvement protocols, etc.

·         Continually establishes and maintains a current knowledge of community resources and various resources provided by the organization.

·         Attends appropriate faculty development conferences both on and off site.

·         Personally works on developing scholarly activities including presentation at professional meetings and publications.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education:

Required

·         Master’s in social work or Ph.D./Psy.D.

Preferred

Experience:

Required

·         Three (3) years of work experience preferably in a health care setting providing social work, mental health and staff supervisory services.

·         Experience in providing integrative care with a track record of working with teams of health care providers and support staff from different disciplines.  

·         Experience providing psychotherapy to a socioeconomically challenged and ethnically underprivileged community.

·         Expertise with motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.  

Preferred

·         Prior experience with graduate medical education desirable.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Required

·         Current L.C.S.W. or Psychologist’s license by the State of Oregon.

·         Bilingual skills a plus.
