About the department
- The Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Hillsboro Medical Center is a state-of-the-art facility that offers a full range of services, including complex and critical in-hospital and outpatient cardiovascular consultations.
- Services include Cardiac Procedures, Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology: our doctors perform coronary angiography, angioplasty, temporary pacemakers, impellas, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and vascular surgery.
- Care is coordinated with a team of board-certified cardiologists and vascular surgeons, nurses and other providers.
The Registered Nurse for Cath Lab ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for cardiovascular patients undergoing a wide variety of angiographic procedures. This is done in accordance with age-related, individual needs, physician’s orders, hospital policy, and standards of care and nursing practice. Assess the needs of patients, plans nursing care to meet those needs, and ensures that the plan of care is carried out and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process.
Main responsibilities:
- Administer medications as ordered by physician, including those that may lead to moderate sedation following moderate sedation policy and monitoring procedures.
- Monitors patient during a wide variety of invasive angiographic procedures including but not limited to heart catheterizations, digital vascular imaging, coronary angioplasty, peripheral and renal angioplasties, pacemakers, neurovascular arteriograms, and various interventional radiology procedures.
- Operates, controls quality and routinely maintains physiologic monitoring system, pressure transducers, co-oximeter, thermodilution, defibrillator, IABP and emergency equipment on a daily basis.
- Performs calculations and measurements using data obtained from heart catheterizations. This includes cardiac outputs, pressure measurements, and resistance and valve areas.
- Runs cardiology patients through ordered stress tests under direction of the cardiologist, according to stress test protocols.
- Participates and shares with after-hours call rotation, while adhering to variable shift scheduling.
